Java Backend Software Engineer (Vesper Team)

About the role

Deltatre's Vesper team builds the platform that delivers video-on-demand and live events to users at global scale. The Java Backend Software Engineer works across Java services, event-driven processes, RESTful APIs and the AWS infrastructure behind the streaming platform. The role is hybrid, with at least one day per week in the Skopje office. Two levels are offered: Senior and Mid-Level.

Key responsibilities

• Build, maintain and optimise Java services running event-driven processes and RESTful APIs on AWS.
• Own the design and implementation of scalable solutions for VOD and live event delivery.
• Take part in system and API design discussions and follow proposals through to delivery.
• Write and maintain automated tests and contribute to test approaches across the team.
• Participate in code review and help set and maintain engineering standards.
• Identify and address performance bottlenecks, reliability risks and technical debt.
• Senior: mentor mid-level engineers through review, pairing and day-to-day guidance.
• Mid-level: work with increasing independence, collaborating closely with senior engineers and QA and product in an agile delivery model.

Required profile

• Senior: strong ownership from design to production, contributes to architecture discussions, helps others improve without being asked.
• Mid-level: takes well-scoped problems forward, asks good questions early, communicates blockers clearly and welcomes feedback.
• Both levels: strong Java 11+, relational databases (MySQL and/or PostgreSQL), RESTful APIs (JAX-RS, Dropwizard, Spring Boot or similar), event-driven systems (SQS, Kinesis, SNS, Kafka or similar), AWS (EC2, RDS, S3, SQS, DynamoDB), software design patterns, automated testing, agile teams.
• Valued: Scala or functional programming, NoSQL, infrastructure as code (Terraform or Ansible), Docker, streaming/media/broadcast background.
