Android Test Automation Engineer (Native App)

About the role

Proton is looking for an Android Test Automation Engineer to design, develop and maintain automated test frameworks for its privacy‑first Android applications. You will work closely with the Android development team to embed robust UI, functional and end‑to‑end tests into the CI/CD pipeline, ensuring high quality and security for millions of users.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks and pipelines for Proton's Android apps.
• Write and execute UI, functional, integration, and end‑to‑end test suites using Espresso, UI Automator, Maestro and other modern tools.
• Collaborate with Android developers to define testability requirements and integrate tests into CI/CD workflows.
• Identify, document, and track bugs, working with the team to resolve them quickly.
• Perform exploratory and risk‑based testing with focus on privacy, data integrity and security.
• Own and evolve Android test infrastructure, including emulator farms, device labs and test environment configurations.
• Analyse test results, detect patterns and drive continuous improvement of quality processes.
• Review test code with the same rigor as production code and champion QA best practices across the team.

Required profile

• 3–5 years of hands‑on experience in Android test automation, preferably on consumer‑facing apps with large user bases.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin and/or Java, with ability to write clean, maintainable test code.
• Proven experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
• Ability to work independently, troubleshoot flaky tests and contribute to a fast‑moving, high‑impact environment.
• Passion for quality, privacy and security in mobile applications.
