Senior Java Engineer

About the role

Armedia is seeking a Senior Java Engineer to modernize and scale its enterprise‑grade case management platform. You will tackle complex engineering challenges, propose architectural improvements, and deliver robust, high‑performance solutions for legal, government, and enterprise clients.

Key responsibilities

• Transition containerised applications from in‑pod logging to centralized log aggregation (e.g., syslog).
• Significantly reduce Java/Spring application startup time.
• Refactor synchronous operations (page counting, file type detection, language detection) into asynchronous flows.
• Analyze and resolve memory and performance bottlenecks, including replacing inefficient libraries such as PDFBox.
• Identify monolithic components and modularise them into microservices (PDF rendering, audit history, uploads).
• Convert the Spring modulith into a distributed service architecture using messaging or gRPC.
• Enforce a strict plugin architecture with runtime plugin loading.
• Implement constant‑time request handling with async side‑effect processing.
• Enable OAuth and JWT authentication, replacing Spring Security mechanisms.
• Replace Solr‑based metadata queries with SQL‑based search while keeping Solr for full‑text search.
• Introduce multi‑tenant persistence capabilities.
• Enhance the build pipeline with formatting, code‑quality, security scoring, and automated acceptance tests.
• Lead efforts to improve system resiliency, drive framework/library upgrades, and improve testing coverage.

Required profile

• Proven experience building complex Java applications and enterprise‑level architectures.
• Strong expertise with the Spring framework, both modulith and microservice patterns.
• Hands‑on experience with Kubernetes, containerisation, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Comfort with asynchronous processing, event‑driven design, and secure API development.
• Ability to work independently, propose architectural changes, and collaborate through peer reviews.
