Senior Software Engineer - Kubernetes Automation
Cast AI
Job description
About the role
This is a remote, location-specific opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer focused on Kubernetes automation. The work covers node placement and provisioning, deep integrations with tools such as Karpenter, workload rightsizing, moving running workloads between nodes, storage that scales itself and GPU capacity optimization across clouds and regions. It runs in real time in production with no human tuning in the loop.
Candidates must reside in one of the listed European countries (Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Cyprus, Malta, Finland, Sweden, Ireland, Moldova, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Slovenia and Ukraine).
Key responsibilities
- Design and build distributed systems that operate Kubernetes infrastructure autonomously at scale.
- Write production Go services that interact with AWS, GCP and Azure APIs for real-time cloud resource management.
- Own features end-to-end, from design through implementation, testing and production rollout (most projects ship in 1-4 weeks).
- Debug complex production issues across cloud providers, Kubernetes clusters and distributed services.
- Collaborate with product and other engineering teams on problems with no textbook solution.
- Work with time-series data, cloud provider APIs and Kubernetes control plane internals.
- Contribute to product direction and backlog, and take part in on-call rotation where required.
Required profile
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and clean, maintainable code.
- Production experience with Go strongly preferred; comparable systems programming skills otherwise.
- Understanding of Kubernetes internals, autoscaling and networking.
- Experience driving a complex project end-to-end, using observability tooling in production, and CI/CD and DevOps practices.
- Experience with AI coding agents and agentic development workflows.
- Nice to have: deep hands-on cloud platform experience (AWS, GCP, Azure), EKS/GKE/AKS internals, CRI-O/runc/containerd, low-level Linux and C/C++ systems programming, and Kubernetes or cloud-native OSS contributions.
Required skills
- Go, Kubernetes, Terraform, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, gRPC, REST, Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Tempo, GitLab/GitHub CI, ArgoCD, Kargo
- AWS, GCP, Azure APIs
What we offer
- Salary of EUR 6,500 - 9,000 gross depending on experience, equity options and a flexible, remote-first global environment.
- 10% of work time for personal projects, learning budget, annual hackathon, team-building budget and extra days off.
Hiring process: recruiter screening call, hiring manager interview, system design technical interview, live coding, culture check with an executive, and a possible background check via Checkr. No visa sponsorship or work permit is provided.
