System Engineer – Senior Linux & Web Hosting Specialist

About the role

We are seeking a hands‑on Senior Linux / Web Hosting Engineer to manage and optimise our hosting infrastructure. The role is fully remote, suitable for contractors based in Canada or Europe.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and maintain Linux servers (LAMP/LEMP), administer WHM/cPanel and Plesk environments, and perform provisioning, configuration and patching.
• Optimise WordPress and WooCommerce performance, implement caching (Redis, Memcached, OPcache) and troubleshoot scaling issues.
• Implement server and application security hardening, configure firewalls (iptables, CSF), fail2ban and malware scanners, and handle incident response.
• Configure and troubleshoot mail systems, improve email deliverability (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) and resolve spam/blacklisting problems.
• Optimise MySQL/MariaDB, analyse slow queries, tune Apache/Nginx and PHP‑FPM, and design backup and disaster‑recovery strategies.

Required profile

• 5+ years of Linux system administration experience with strong hands‑on WHM/cPanel or Plesk expertise.
• Proven track record supporting production WordPress/WooCommerce sites and managing DNS, SSL and email services.
• Solid troubleshooting, debugging and Bash scripting skills; ability to work independently as a contractor.
